The Dartmoor National Park is ¾ mile from
the farm, which is located in mid-Devon, with easy access to and
by an excellent dual- carriageway [A30] & other main roads [e.g.
A386] & many rural roads. Okehampton has roads radiating in many
directions, so as well as providing an excellent walking, cycling,
horse riding it is a good touring base for Devon & Cornwall. Well-mannered
dogs and horses/ponies are welcome; we have built stabling and a
short walk/hack along lanes can get you out on the moors.
ACCOMMODATION
AT BEER FARM
Every cottage has been well furnished and equipped
with Freeview, TV/video, DVD, CD & radio, dishwasher, fridge/freezer,
full electric cooker & a microwave oven. Full central heating is
available. All for the comfort and convenience of guests. There
is a small lawn for each cottage.
Sitting rooms -
have a comfortable sofa & an armchair, or two, plus a Freeview TV,
DVD and a video recorder and all cottages have facilities to play
CDs & radio. Full central heating* is available if required, each
cottage has a log stove or an electric flame effect heater.
Kitchens -
each of the four has a dishwasher, combination microwave oven, family
size cooker - or oven with separate ceramic hob. Also provided is
a fridge/freezer, filter-coffee machine, toaster and kettle plus
ample storage space. Plenty of cooking utensils, bottle & can opener,
saucepans, crockery, glassware & cutlery are provided.
Bathrooms -
all have a WC, wash basin and all but Acorn have a bath with thermostatic
shower, shaver light/socket, radiator &/or electric towel rail/wall
heater. Acorn has a large walk or wheel-in shower room, with WC
& washbasin, on the ground floor off the corridor between the double
bed-sit room and the kitchen/diner.
APPLE
COTTAGE -
has 3 bright bedrooms, one double, one twin
& one small bunk room (adult size beds).The sitting room has
2 sofas, an armchair, stone fireplace with wood burning stove. Freeview
TV/video, DVD and a radio/cassette/CD hi-fi. The kitchen/diner has
a pine table with 6 chairs and ample storage. Various bookcases.
PEAR
COTTAGE -
has 2 airy bedrooms, one double & one twin, again there is ample
storage space. The sitting/dining room has a sofa bed*, 2 armchairs
and an adjustable dining table with 4 chairs, 2 stools, sideboard,
stone fireplace with flame effect electric thermostatic fan heater.
Larger families/groups
may like to rent Apple & Pear cottages & have the interior
doors unlocked providing convenient 24 hour indoor communication.
OAK
COTTAGE
- is the largest cottage & adjoins
Acorn. On the ground floor is an entrance hall, a twin bedroom,
a bunk bedroom (adult size bunks) and a bathroom (bath with shower
over, & WC). Alongside that is a larger double bedroom with
en suite facility (shower, washbasin & WC). On the first
floor is a large oak floored sitting room (a small room off provides
a washbasin, WC & shower). There is a wood burning stove &
two sofas, a sofa bed and armchairs, etc. A TV with teletext, video/DVD,
and separate radio/CD player are provided. Double glass doors lead
from the sitting room to the oak floored dining area. The apex-roofed,
airy kitchen area has a tiled floor & is well equipped with
extensive cupboard space, a large fridge/freezer, large cooker,
combination microwave, and large dishwasher.
ACORN
COTTAGE - has
an openable* interconnecting door from the ground floor of Oak Cottage
to a half landing in Acorn.
Upstairs
in Acorn Cottage is a twin bedroom with a fitted wardrobe, chest
of drawers & bedside cabinets. Two Velux roof windows giving
views across the fields. The other direction takes you to a similarly
sloping roofed sitting room which, as well as a Velux roof light
& similar views but also has most of one wall as glass from
floor to roof.
It
has a sofa bed*, two armchairs, etc. a TV with teletext & a
video player/DVD. A radio/CD player is also provided. A flame effect
log fire incorporates a fan heater. The stairs, bedroom & sitting
room are carpeted.
The
ground floor of Acorn cottage is all on one level & has
no steps. The floor is tiled throughout and has level access through
the front door to the paths & a designated car parking area
immediately outside.
The
bed-sit has a double bed, fitted wardrobe, folding table & chairs
with arms, as well as a remote-controlled TV/video. Along the corridor
is the fully tiled shower room draining through the floor in the
Continental style.
The compact kitchen/diner is well equipped with a table & 4
chairs, fridge with separate freezer section above, in-built oven
with grill, combination microwave in-built above, medium sized dishwasher,
ample low level & wall storage and ceramic hotplate & sink
with drainer.
Acorn
Cottage has been designed & equipped with the less mobile in
mind and has been assessed as category M2 (National Accessible
Standards). Please contact us for fuller details of this cottage
& to discuss your requirements.
Emergencies
in Acorn -
there is a door from the bed-sit to the outside for Emergency use
and this room and the shower room have emergency alarm pull systems
linked to a buzzer indoors with an exterior siren & light.
All
four cottages have fire detecting equipment, a fire extinguisher
& a fire blanket. The Laundry & the Games Room each have
a fire extinguisher.
Smoking
is discouraged for the health and safety reasons & the convenience
of the majority. We would especially ask for No Smoking in bedrooms,
bathrooms, the games room and laundry.
Horses & Ponies
-
by prior arrangement.
We
will need to know in advance if you need us to obtain locally any
bedding or hay. A charge per week per animal is made.
Two new self-catering stables - to BHS measurements - have been
built near to the cottages within a large modern barn, allowing
grooming & tacking up under cover. There should always be a
field free of livestock where they can be let out. Hay racks &
water buckets are provided, as is a wheelbarrow, brush, rake &
shovel. We expect the stables and inside/outdoor yard to be left
clean & tidy, as you would like to find them.
Access
to the Moors is about one mile along the lanes, depending on which
route you take.

Out and About on Dartmoor
Dartmoor provides the perfect holiday location
for lovers of the great outdoors - all year round. Designated a
National Park in 1951 Dartmoor has a very special and unique
'wild' landscape, wildlife and history. There are over 400 miles
of footpaths and open moorland for visitors to enjoy
and the Devon coast is just half an hour away.
There are excellent opportunities for horse
riding, walking, fishing, cycling, canoeing, climbing and golf all
available in the area. Plus numerous pretty moorland villages and
historical market towns to discover.
