Self Catering Holiday Accommodation Cullompton,
Devon Lydensign Sleeps 6 Lydensign gets its name from long ago as the place where the password or sign was picked up to be handed over at Passby, a cottage down the hill, before visitors were allowed into the Castle grounds. Supposedly there are underground passages from Lydensign to the Castle but we have never found any evidence!
Linen, bath and kitchen towels are all provided. I always perform the changeover myself - thus making sure that everything is clean and ready for you so that you can start to enjoy your holiday as soon as you walk through the door. The smaller sitting room has a night storage heater, open Victorian fireplace and a colour TV/video. The dining room has a night storage heater, log
burner, dining table and chairs with front door opening onto the porch
and then lawns. Downstairs there is an all electric kitchen with a oven, modern full-size hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and sandwich maker, coffee maker, fridge/freezer, tumble drier and washing machine. Outside the cottage there is ample parking area, washing line and garden furniture. There is a large pond in almost an acre of lawns which attracts an enormous variety of wildlife with heron, frogs, toads, newts, dragonflies and the dipping swallows are in abundance during the summer months. In the surrounding fields are the small roe deer and badgers but they are a little more shy! Buzzards can regularly be seen and heard circling the nearby fields. The Village of Hemyock is about half a mile away with its various shops including bakers, P.O., 2 garages, a good take-away, with the Spar shop being open 7 days a week until 10pm (needless to say this is very useful), tennis courts and a bowling green can also be found in the village, horse riding and fishing are nearby. The local, "The Catherine Wheel" has a good reputation for food - similarly "The Half Moon" and "The Merry Harriers" at Clayhidon with numerous others in the locality. Hemyock is situated on the Devon/Somerset borders in the Culm Valley along the Blackdown Hills, which is now a designated area of outstanding natural beauty The National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor and the Quantock Hills are within easy reach, likewise both the North and South Coasts and many other places of interest (details of which are at the cottage for you to browse at your leisure). Taunton is approx. 10 miles away, as is the lace making and pottery town of Honiton. The city of Exeter, county town of Devon, with ifs Cathedral, underground passages and extensive shopping is 20 miles, with the motorway (junction 26) and the Sports centre at Wellington being only 5 miles. The nearest Railway Station is at Tiverton Parkway and motorway Junction 27 being less than 10 miles. Looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting you and your family. |
