Full of character, Mill Barton is a charming place to stay.

Mill Barton is a 75 acre beef farm, with various horses (two foals due this year), poultry, dogs and a cat. You can walk through the woods and fields or stroll along the river bank and, for more serious walkers, the long distance path linking Dartmoor and Exmoor, the Two Moors Way, is two fields away.

Accommodation

All the rooms overlook the beautiful valley of the River Dalch. Apart from the odd tractor, usually the only noise is birdsong and contented cattle.

There is so little light pollution that the stars on a clear night are stunning.

You will have fresh flowers, tea, coffee and biscuits in your room, pure cotton sheets and proper sized bath towels. The large twin room has a high ceiling and private bathroom next door; the double has its own basin and private bathroom down the passage.

If you need exercise, you can play tennis or swim in our solar-heated outdoor pool, discreetly situated between old stone barns, or just sit on the bench by the stream in the secluded tree garden.

You can eat at two pubs in Witheridge, just a mile up the hill or, all within 10 miles are the delightful Lamb at Sandford, organic food at the Stag at Rackenford and the Michelin starred Mason's Arms at Knowstone, as well as many other pubs with local beers and ciders.

The next morning the old oak refectory table will be laid for a light breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, home-made bread and marmalade or a cooked breakfast including our own freshly laid free range eggs and local smoked bacon.

£35 per person per night, except Bank Holidays £40 per person per night.
