Shute is situated in an idyllic, secluded setting within the beautiful,
wooded Teign Valley, a mile from The Dartmoor National Park.
The house nestles amongst rolling hills, a 5 minute stroll
from the historic village of Doddiscombsleigh and only 8 miles from the
cathedral city of Exeter with its mainline station, access to the M5 motorway,
and busy airport.
Shute is a 15th century, thatched, Grade II listed Devon longhouse. It
stands in 5 acres of sunny gardens, woodland and meadows with stream,
which you are welcome to explore during your stay. Shute offers two large,
stylish, double bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom.
The rooms overlook unspoilt wooded countryside and meadows doused in birdsong.
Shute consists of two tastefully decorated double bedrooms, each with
their own private bathroom for your exclusive use. One bedroom has a king-sized
bed, the other a super-king bed. Twin beds can be organised.
The house is centrally heated during the winter. Both rooms have uninterrupted
views of gardens leading out to sweeping meadows and woodland. The only
sounds are birdsong, trickling water from the stream, bleating sheep,
and horses trotting down the lane. Each room has its own coffee/tea-making
facilities and Sky TV. The house has a non-smoking policy.
You are welcome to relax in the dining room with its open-hearth fireplace,
wood burning stove and bread oven.
Breakfast
There is a choice of both English and continental breakfast. A large,
hearty Devon cooked breakfast is offered, as well as croissants, wholemeal
breads, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, a choice of teas, filter coffee and
fresh juice.
The ingredients are locally produced and organic where possible. Please
notify us if you are a vegetarian.
About the area...
Shute is in an ideal position for a rustic, relaxing break with the popular
Nobody Inn a short stroll down the lane and a public footpath across the
fields into the next valley. It is a perfect base from which to explore
Dartmoor with its beautiful villages, varied activities and attractions.
The extensive Haldon Forest biking trails are just 5 minutes up the lane
for mountain bike enthusiasts. Golfers are also catered for with the 18
hole Teign Valley Golf Course just 10 minutes away, and the world renowned
Bovey Castle championship course, voted Best Golf resort 2005 at the World
Travel awards, is approximately 12 miles away.
Doddiscombsleigh is a conservation area, with a pre-conquest church, medieval
farmhouses, 16th century cob barn and the famous Nobody Inn. The award-
winning pub is a 5 minute stroll or stagger ! down the lane. The Nobody
is renowned nationally for its food, locally produced cheeses, extensive
collection of 700 well cellared wines, its choice of 240 whiskies, various
local farm ciders, Nobodys Bitter and Otter Ale. The Manor Inn with its
gourmet menu is a walk across the fields along a public footpath.
