Primrose Cottage
Situated in some of East Devon's most
spectacular countryside Primrose Cottage is an extremely spacious,
self-contained cottage with its own garden. Safe and private, Primrose
Cottage is perfect for a relaxing holiday or short break, and is
ideally placed to explore the countryside and the coast, being just
a few miles from the lovely resort of Lyme Regis, a fantastic base
for fossil collecting and beach combing.
The single storey centrally-heated cottage
is comfortably furnished and hastwo large bedrooms, one double,
one with twin beds, for which bed linen is provided, a family bathroom
(towels provided), separate shower room and a WC, plus a fully fitted
kitchen with a fridge, microwave, electric double oven and washing
machine. The large lounge is equipped with TV, DVD player, video
and Freeview box. From the lounge sliding patio doors lead to the
sunny, south-facing garden with its own BBQ.
The cottage is an ideal place for a family
holiday as it is situated within 12 acres of fields, including one
with its own lake home to our resident flock of ducks. The fields
are flat and fully enclosed, so there is plenty of room for children
to run and play in a safe environment. Well behaved pets are also
welcome. Guests are assured the warmest of welcomes from our own
Golden Retriever Merryck.
We would ask that guests refrain from
smoking inside the cottage and dispose of their cigarette ends thoughtfully
if smoking outside.
The Area
Set in An Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, Spillers Farm is near the delightful village of Musbury,
one of the Axe Valley's lesser known villages, recently the new
home of TV chef Hugh Fernley Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ. Walkers
might enjoy the spectacular view of the valley and River Axe estuary
from the top of Musbury Hill, which is a carpet of bluebells in
the spring. It is a great place to watch the sunset and buzzards
can often be seen soaring below. Nearby Axmouth, a pretty village
of thatched cottages, good pubs and a popular harbour is also a
bird watchers' paradise. Herons, waders, kingfishers and egrets
are regularly seen on the estuary. For those who prefer to fish,
trout fishing lakes are less than 2 miles away.
Within a few miles drive is the charming
fishing village of Beer; fresh fish and crab can still be bought
on the shingle beach. Fishing trips and boat hire are available.
A tour of the stunning Quarry Caves where stone was quarried for
many English cathedrals is highly recommended. Next to Beer is Branscombe,
reputed to be the longest village in the West Country. Full of "chocolate
box" thatched cottages with hanging baskets and colourful gardens,
the village also boasts one of the best pubs in the area - The Masons'
Arms. The Branscombe cliffs are part of the Dorset and East Devon
World Heritage Coast (Jurassic Coast) and it is possible to walk
the cliffs from Seaton to Lyme Regis following the South West Coastal
Path. Spillers Farm is ideally placed for walkers, with the East
Devon Way accessible from a lane behind our lake leading to charming
villages or the historic market town of Colyton, where it is possible
to board the Colyton-Seaton Tram which passes through two nature
reserves. Colyton itself has interesting shops, an antiques centre,
character inns and an historic church.
Local attractions include The Donkey
Sanctuary just outside the nearby regency seaside town of Sidmouth
which is home to around 500 rescued donkeys. Set in unspoilt farmland
and countryside, visitors return time and again to meander among
the donkeys and absorb the serene and relaxed surroundings. Younger
holiday makers might enjoy a trip to Countryside Park Farway, East
Devon's favourite farm based tourist attraction, where you can feed
the baby lambs, calves and goats and many other animals or the Pecorama
at Beer featuring the Beer Heights Light Railway, considered by
many to be the finest 71/4 inch gauge railway in Britain.
