Sunridge lodge is a delightful newly renovated contemporary
barn, a beautiful combination of modern design mingled with exposed beams
and stone floors. With its own private fishing lake, and located in an
area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of the Westcountry, this
private hideaway is perfect to visit all year.
Originally built over 200 years ago and recently renovated
Sunridge lodge still retains its rustic charm. Stone walls and exposed
beams have been carefully combined with modern interiors and beautiful
features like the solid oak and glass staircase leading to the bedrooms.
This private retreat has its own fishing lake, stocked with Carp located
70 yards from the front door. If you don't want to fish you can just relax
and enjoy the beauty of the lake or explore the surrounding woodland.
Outside Sunridge Lodge
There is a generous split level deck emerging from the
lodge that hovers above the garden space and is perfect for dining/entertaining.
The deck also leads to the upstairs bedrooms. To say you won't have any
neighbours is not strictly true because edging the lawns there is a shady
wood teeming with wildlife, birds and badgers, foxes and squirrels!
Within the depths of the wood is a huge landing deck that
surrounds an old tree, over 6 meters in length and hovering high above
ground level. This is the perfect retreat from the overhead sun with a
view of the lake through the trees. And don't forget of course there is
the fresh water fishing lake only 70 yards away; we can even book you
a private lesson with a local fisherman if you wish!
The Surrounding Area
The South Hams is England's most outstanding area of beauty
and you will be in the heart of it! Beautiful beached are minutes away.
Mothercombe Beach, just five
minutes away from the Lodge, was used as a location for Jane Austen's
Sense and Sensibility, as was
nearby Saltram House, a huge Georgian period property. On your doorstep
there are miles and miles of country trails along the
River Erme and the dramatic south west coast path offers scenery
that is literally breathtaking.
The towns and villages boast authentic eighteen and nineteenth
century architecture and there are hundreds of antique shops adding to
the rural charm and the quintessentially English nature of this region.
It's not hard to imagine you've been taken back in time, especially on
a chilly winter's night, beside the roaring fire in the old village pub.
The Inns and restaurants in the region are as sophisticated and accomplished
as any you'd find in London - Dartmouth,
Kingsbridge, Modbury, Newton Ferrers and Noss
Mayo, and of course, right on your doorstep, Yealmpton. In each
place you will find award winning pubs and restaurants, with sea views
and river views.
Local villages are teeming with character, delightful shops
used by tourists and locals alike. If you are looking for a gourmet experience,
food could not be fresher or more diverse. Fresh fish is caught daily,
eggs can still be warm! Whether you want pheasant or quail, sea bass or
John Dory, free range home cured bacon or Devon clotted cream, it's all
here, and just minutes away from the Lodge.
