The River Tavy and the Abbey Bridge in the centre of TavistockThe rivers around Tavistock are well stocked, but much of the Salmon and Trout fishing is preserved, although permits can be obtained. Anglers can obtain licences from the River Authority representatives for the Tavy.

Tavistock Golf Club has an 18 hole course on Whitchurch Down, which commands beautiful views of Dartmoor. A second course can be found at Hurdwick Golf Club on the Brentor Road.

A fine Cricket Pitch is laid out on the 'Ring' on Whitchurch Down.

The Meadows public space in the Town Centre is well maintained with games pitches, hard and grass tennis courts (for public hire), pitch and putt and a bowling green.

The Canal in The MeadowsAt the Town end of the Meadows is a fine new water attraction, a tropical paradise pool. Close by the old canal warehouses have been developed into the Wharf, a centre for films shows, theatre and the arts.

The Town has private badminton, archery, tennis, bowls, hockey, football, rugby, cricket, squash and rifle clubs.

Social and cultural interests are provided for by the Tavistock Amateur Operatic Society, Tavonians Dramatic Society, Art Group, Rotary, Round table, Lions, Women's Institute, British Legion, West Devon Club, Youth Clubs and young peoples organisations such as Scouts, Guides, the Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps.

The Town has grown and prospered from many sources - the Abbey, mining for tin and other metals, the wool trade, and being a market Town. Remains of all these faces can still be seen by the visitor.
